History, Week Ten...

Pretest

Samson-this was a fun one to read about. The kids already knew the story, but had forgotten parts of it and we learned more of the history aspect rather than just the story. We had fun with Jenga-to symbolize the pillars that Samson pushed down to kill many Philistines and himself along with them. They loved this game!

See little Samson under there?

And a little arm wrestling to remember how strong Samson was...

Will enjoyed just building with the blocks when we were done playing...

OK, then it was the Zhou (pronounced Chou) Dynasty...
Then the story of Samuel (and Eli). Samuel was the last of the Judges, then there started to be kings instead.
Posttest
Timeline

Samson-with X's where eyes should be since they were gouged out. Long hair, and pillars on both sides...

Zhou Dynasty-divided into the East and West...
Samuel-with big ears since he heard God...

General...

Luke and Kendall made these during CBS this week. Kendall's "Shield of Faith" and Luke's "Helmet of Salvation." Obviously they learned about the Armor of God.

Will took these pictures this week of our kitchen artwork....

Riverbanks Zoo (Pictures on ALL the Statues)...

Luke in particular wanted to get pictures on every animal statue we passed. And there are quite a few of them at the zoo. Funny thing...every time we attempted it, someone ended up unhappy. Usually because not everyone could fit on the same one. It's hard to make 5 kids happy all at once when it comes to picture taking. So I had to start saying NO.

Uh-oh. Bo is not on the gorilla...
Yep. He's ticked...

Discussing the plan, and Bo about to be ticked again...

Ahh, finally a good one on the baby elephant. Thank you Noah for standing happily... :)

More at Riverbanks Zoo (How Does Your Garden Grow?)...

Milkin' Bessy in the barnyard...

This huge tent was at the gardens. They wanted to go do a show in it but the grass was laden with goose poo, so they just did their best show poses from here for the picture...

Beautiful flowers...

Potting a flower (with fake flowers but real dirt)...

Good job Noah!

Bo workin' hard...

Will has quite the green thumb...

And K too!

Riverbanks Zoo (The Lorikeets)...

Aren't they pretty?

It's always fun to go in the Lorikeet cage. You can buy a cup of nectar for $1, but every other time we have gone, it's been so crowded that I think the birdies were stuffed with nectar. But since it wasn't very crowded, these Lorikeets had a ravenous appetite and were hilarious! Kendall carried the nectar in and one flew and landed on her head right away, then one on her arm. It startled her and me too, but she was cool as a cucumber. It was so funny!

Operation: Candy...

I finally got on the ball yesterday and we boxed up our candy for Operation Donation and then we took it to the post office to mail today. 8 pounds and 6 ounces of candy. Gone. Yippee! We did keep some stuff too (mostly chocolate...but we did give some of that too). We had waaayyy too much...we had bought too much to give out and also the kids had just collected a lot.

L and K wrote letters to soldiers. That would be awesome if someone wrote them back. They got very much into it once we got started. Will drew a picture. In this picture he looks sad. He was, but not about giving the candy, but giving his picture. I don't think he thought it was good enough to send. Poor guy.

Here's Luke's letter...

And Kendall's...

Then we finally did some of those candy experiments. They were ok. Nothing to get too excited over.
My favorite one was this--if you soak M&M's in water (or Skittles would work too I think), the color dissolves but the white M floats to the top. It's because it is made of white edible ink. I don't know if you can see the M's floating in here or not...
